Electrical Safety Standards revised guidance withdrawn

The government has issued an update on the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 which may mean thousands of rentals in England could be non compliant come the 1st July 2020.

The regulations are due to come into effect on the 1st July 2020 and were previously thought to apply to those tenancies signed after this date with 1st April 2021 set for retrospective effect to all tenancies. ARLA Propertymark confirmed to its members last night that a new update suggests this may apply to all tenancies signed after the 1st June 2020 which gives many landlords just over a week to arrange their checks.

We are awaiting further updates on this, for a more detailed look at the regulations for England and Wales take a look at our Landlord Guide to Electrical Safety

The government has now withdrawn the revised guidance and reinstated the original guidance which can be viewed on their site  Government Guidance.
