Tenancy deposit schemes win new contracts

The Tenancy Deposit Scheme and Mydeposits have both won new contracts from the Government.

They will run from April 6 next year until 2018.

The TDS, which was the first deposit protection scheme, and was launched by the Association of Residential Letting Agents, ARLA, has been in existence since 2004, starting as a voluntary scheme.

Mydeposits was launched by the National Landlords Association.

In 2007, mandatory tenancy deposit protection was introduced.

From next April, there will be some changes in the regulations governing tenancy deposit protection.

From next month, the TDS will run an extensive briefing programme explaining the changes in regulation and operating procedures.
